A new ferry connection between northern Estonia's Sillamäe and the Russian port of Ust-Luga opened this week, providing cargo trucks an alternative to crossing the land border in Narva.
The 50-nautical mile link between the ports is the first naval venture for the line's operator, Universal Logistic System.
The ferry, which runs once a day, is currently open only to commercial vehicles. The company is likely to add more ships to the line at a later date.
The opening of the line could be good news to international logistics companies who use the Estonia as a transit gateway between the EU and Russia. The main road crossing at Narva border is often plagued by delays.
