A study by G.P. Wild, a maritime consultation company, showed that cruise ship passengers add 51 million euros annually to the economy of Tallinn and it's surrounding areas.
On average, a passenger spends 56.7 euros in Tallinn, slightly above the European average of 53.1 euros, according to a press release sent from the Port of Tallinn today.
Nearly half of passenger budgets, 26.7 euros, is spent on outings, followed by souvenirs and handicraft (11.6 euros), clothing (5.8 euros) and food and drinks (4.8 euros).
Passengers and ship crews spent 26.4 million euros last year in Tallinn, contributing 51 million euros indirectly to the nation’s economy.
According to the study, cruise line passengers value highly the friendliness of locals, service in shops and historic sights.
On a scale from five to zero, visitors gave Tallinn on average 4.2, which is higher than Europe’s average of 3.7. Of guests, 96 percent said the trip to Tallinn met or exceeded their expectations.
G.P. Wild conducts annual surveys on the state of the industry on behalf of the European Cruise Council.
The survey was conducted among 2,923 passengers and 761 crew members who visited Tallinn last summer.
